Innovative Research in Quantum Materials

Prof. Lanzara's research focuses on understanding and manipulating quantum materials, including high-temperature superconductors, topological insulators, and two-dimensional materials like graphene. Her work has unveiled phenomena such as spin-momentum locking and electron-phonon interactions, which are fundamental to the development of quantum computing and spintronics.

Her laboratory has developed cutting-edge tools like the spin-Time of Flight (spin-TOF) spectrometer, enabling high-resolution mapping of electron spin properties. This innovation has significantly advanced the study of spin-dependent electronic behaviors in complex materials.

As the founding director of the Center for Sustainable Materials and Innovation, Prof. Lanzara leads initiatives aimed at developing materials that address critical challenges in energy, environment, and technology. She also directs Berkeley Discovery, a campus-wide program that fosters undergraduate research and innovation.
