Prof. Advincula's research delves into the synthesis and characterization of polymers and nanomaterials capable of controlled assembly and self-organization. His work has led to advancements in smart coatings, stimuli-responsive materials, and ultrathin films with applications in sensors, optics, biotechnology, and energy production.

He has spearheaded projects integrating artificial intelligence and machine learning into materials science, notably establishing a machine learning-driven flow chemistry laboratory at ORNL.
